Buckeye Burl is a very popular wood for use as knife handle materials. Natural Buckeye is a soft wood that needs to be stabilized to give it the hardness and durability needed for knife handles. Buckeye burl makes a really dramatic looking handle because of the unusual blue / black coloring that forms in the wood as it dries. Buckeye also takes dyes very nicely.
